PUNE: Nearly 300 companies from 35 different countries are keen on joining hands with the Smart City projects of Pune.
These firms will provide solutions with respect to traffic, garbage management, water supply, sanitation and drainage.
The companies along with consulates of various countries participated in a two-day exhibition-cum-seminar, on Smart Cities held in the city recently. The event was organised by Pune Municipal Corporation.
“These companies have shown willingness to join hands with the civic administration. They will work on the projects commissioned under the Smart Cities Mission. Those not working on the Smart City projects will be part of other civic projects,” civic chief Kunal Kumar said.
At the event, companies from Germany, Singapore, Belgium, UK and US had set up stalls, where innovative technologies to mitigate the civic issues were presented. There were discussions on how the practices and technologies in their countries can be implemented in Pune. The PMC has signed memorandums of understanding with some of these firms. Kumar said such programmes will be a regular feature for Smart City initiative in Pune.
The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) that will execute projects under the mission, was registered in March. The company has seven stakeholders.The ground work for the projects will be started on June 25 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the mission in the city.
The civic body has received around Rs 283 crore from the state and Union governments for the projects. More than Rs 3,000 crore is to be spent on the Smart City projects. They will be carried out in pan city areas as well as area development section in Aundh-Baner and Balewadi.
