KOLHAPUR: Chiplun tehsildar Vrushali Kadam has initiated action to seize five acres of land registered in the name of United Breweries Engineering Ltd, a part of Vijay Mallya-led United Breweries Holding Limited. When the tehsil office found that annual tax has not been paid by the owners, it issued a notice to the company’s Pune address and initiated confiscation as there was no response.
There are some row houses built on the site which were in use earlier, but nobody has visited the spot over the last couple of years.
“The land measures 209 ‘gunthas’ (five acres and nine gunthas) and is located at Pimpali village in Chiplun tehsil of Ratnagiri district. UB engineering has not paid non-agricultural tax amounting to Rs 45,000 for the financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16,” said Kadam.
Kadam has initiated action to seize the property and also the buildings constructed on it. The notice mentions that the company no longer can trade the property (sell it), hand it over to other partners or interested parties, or donate it. Similarly, no party can purchase it or seek its transfer till the dues are cleared. A notice was issued on February 2 to the company at its Pune address, but there was no response. Another notice was issued sometime this week which also went unanswered following which action was initiated.
“As per my information, the bungalows were used occasionally when people would visit, mostly travelling by personal vehicles. This stopped completely over the last two years. The company’s non-payment of dues surfaced during a regular review meeting where we decided to take action to recover the pending amount,” said Kadam. Despite repeated attempts, there was no response from the Pune office of UB Engineering Limited.
