Honeywell Smart Building Score, world’s first-of-its-kind tool that measures building smartness, provides the answer.
We spend 80-90% of our lives in buildings – be it homes, offices, or commercial or industrial facilities. They are an integral part of our lives and the building blocks of our cities. As India moves towards achieving its 100 Smart Cities goal, have you wondered how smart your building is and how it fares in the government’s Smart Cities vision?
Earlier this year, Honeywell, a technology leader and Fortune 100 company, launched the Honeywell Smart Building ScoreTM. This is a first-of-its-kind global tool that evaluates buildings based on their use of technologies to offer a green, safe, and productive environment – three key outcomes of smart buildings. The score was used to assess 2,000 buildings across eight Indian cities, and survey findings were published in a Honeywell-EY white paper titled, “Smart Buildings Make Smart Cities.”
While the country’s airports and hotels are leading the way with smart building technologies, the survey found that, in general, the smartness of buildings in India is low: On a scale of 1 to 100, the national average Honeywell Smart Building ScoreTM was only 33. Most buildings in the survey scored highest on green elements, potentially reflecting the focus on sustainability from leading global and Indian rating agencies, as well as government incentives to improve building sustainability and energy efficiency. Safety scores of buildings on average were very low, at 21, highlighting potential risks and the need for greater investments in safety and security solutions. Average score for productivity was 31, with a clear indication that more needs to be done to improve systems for indoor environment comfort, quality, and control, as well as wireless connectivity.
Government and civic authorities are key enablers for significant portions of civic and administrative infrastructure, utilities and public amenities. However, individuals, private building owners, and businesses can also impact and contribute by making thousands of private and public buildings smarter.
Implementing smart building solutions can make facilities more connected and adaptive, reduce energy and operating costs, and improve the safety and quality of life for occupants and users. The Honeywell Smart Building ScoreTM makes it simple and easy for building owners and facility managers to identify the right technologies to make their buildings greener, safer, and more productive.
After all, the smarter the buildings, the smarter the city will be.
