At Nashik, around 12-15 Smart City projects to be completed in 2017

NASHIK: Around 12-15 Smart City projects will see light of day in 2017, with the civic body prioritising traffic management, parking and smartphone applications.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) chief Abhishek Krishna on Friday said that projects will be fully implemented by January.

“We are starting a parking facility, both on road and off road on an experimental basis at 4-5 areas. We have developed a parking app through which citizens can pay online. A record on the entry and exit of a vehicle can also be maintained and people will know whether a slot is available. The app will be different for both on the road and off the road,” Krishna said.

The NMC commissioner added that Shalimar, MG Road or CBS to Ashok Stambh have been identified for on-road parking and P N G showroom at Canada Corner, Shatabdi Hospital at Mumbai Naka and B D Bhalekar ground for off-road parking. “We have to do the marking for on road parking, orient our employees and give time to people to download the app. By January, we should be able to start these. We want to develop 35 sites in this manner,” Krishna said.

He added that a rotary parking system was also being planned, where 15-20 cars could be automatically lifted.

“Through this system, 20 cars can be accommodated in place of two cars. The structure can be set up in 10 days and a start-up has offered to install it for free. The cost will come to Rs 60 lakh and is totally mechanized with only one person needed to operate it,” he said.

“Other plans include introducing the Matrutva App, an e-blood bank to check availability in the city’s blood banks. A river pollution monitoring system, an app for out-of-school children, an e-flood system to alert people in low-lying areas, by measuring water levels and an e-Vidya project for virtual classrooms for NMC students are also on the cards. An auto-weighing bridge for solid waste management plant will also be provided. A smart attendance system for employees at schools and hospitals to convey entry and exit time as well as period of attendance is also in the pipeline,” Krishna said.
