Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has provided temporary accommodation to over 500 families who were dishoused during the extensive demolition drive organised across the city and those living in dilapitated structures. The people have been relocated to the rental housing scheme and the BSUP tenements at Dosti Imperia, Dosti complex in Vartak Nagar, Khopat, Kausa and the BSUP tenements in Tulsidham.
“We first relocated the people who were affected in the road widening project. The illegal commercial structures were pulled down after the residents cleared the area. The people cooperated and there were no agitation,” said civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal.
The TMC conducted a biometric survey before the demolition to verify the exact number of beneficiaries following which the administration carried out a rehabilitation plan.
“As per the discussion in the General Body meeting, the families relocated from the dilapidated structures have to pay a monthly rent of Rs 2,000 for the rental homes, whereas those rehabilitated due to the demolition for road widening have been staying for free. The decision is yet to be ratified by the civic chief,” said a senior civic official.
