NASHIK: The Builders Association of India (BAI) on Friday demanded a faster clearance process for real estate projects through single window system from the government.
They also want an ‘industry’ status to be given to the construction business.
Avinash Patil, the national president of BAI said, “There is need to speed up the various permissions and clearances at all the levels, that is the local-self government, state government and central governments. There are around 65 permissions required from these three authorities and builders have to make several rounds to get these permissions. There is also a need to speed up the clearance process for construction projects through the one window clearance system. This leads to rise in cost of real estate projects and the the economic burden is indirectly passed on to the consumers.
Patil said, “Infrastructure projects of various national highways, state highways, power projects, industrial corridors of more than Rs.7 lakh crore are pending because of non clearance from the environmental ministry. Almost all infrastructure projects require clearance from the environmental and forest ministries at multiple layers, which not only creates an abnormal delay in completing the projects but also effect the ultimate cost of the project.” He added, “One window clearance for this approval is also needed for the project as a whole.”
He also stressed the need to have a simplified and uniform policy across the country for minor and minerals, “There should be a single registration for contractors working in India,” he said.
The national conference of BAI is being held in the city tomorrow. Around 600 delegates are expected to attend.
