CREDAI’s project for waste disposal accepted by Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: The special council meeting chaired by mayor V K C Mammed Koya on implementing an effective decentralized waste disposal mechanism decided to execute the project presented by Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association India (Credai) after conducting a preliminary study.

The special council meeting also directed the health standing committee to select the project presented by Centre for Research and Development in Health Hygiene and Environment (CRDHHE) or Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parisad for execution.

The project presented by CRDHHE stressed on source-level waste disposal at households, buildings, markets and streets while the KSSP project focused on raising awareness, source reduction, plastic waste disposal and solid waste management, along with the smooth functioning of Njeliyanparamba garbage disposal plant. The project presented by Credai focused on managing wastes generated from flats and commercial complexes.

Mayor V K C Mammed Koya said that the project presented by Credai seemed more ideal for flat complexes in the city.

The councillors, including opposition members, congratulated the mayor for convening a special council to discuss waste management issues.
