HYDERABAD: In a step towards making Telangana government’s double bedroom (2BHK) housing scheme a reality, revenue officials have started making arrangements to shift slum-dwellers from 18 slums. In the first phase, 5,934 flats will be built at 18 locations in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts by June, 2017.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has roped in an NGO called SRACO to counsel the occupants on the significance of the housing scheme and answer queries raised by them.
Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy collectors and GHMC officials identified 18 slums in Secunderabad, Sanatnagar, Goshamahal, Nampally, Karwan, Secunderabad cantonment, Musheerabad, Malakpet, LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Uppal assembly constituencies. “The occupants have given consent to construct 2BHK flats. We will acquire the land soon and begin construction,” GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy told TOI.
“We will construct the flats either as G+3 or G+9 structures. Tenders have been floated and may be finalised in a month’s time. Companies have come forward to supply cement at subsidised rates,” he added.
“As the housing scheme is being taken up by the government, a No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the Airports Authority of India is not required, but we will send them an intimation about the project,” the official replied.
In the Secunderabad Cantonment, the 2BHK flats would be constructed at Kattamaisamma Silver Compound in G+3 style. “For this too, NoC is not required, but if necessary, we will approach and take the necessary clearance,” the GHMC official said.
“Already, the Hyderabad district administration has handed over a list of slums to the GHMC for implementing the housing scheme and directed revenue officials to shift slum dwellers after issuing occupation certificates,” sources in the Hyderabad collectorate said.
