Govt considering interior roads to address traffic jam in Whitefield

Bengaluru development minister KJ George on Tuesday said that government is charting out plans to address the problem of increasing traffic congestion in Whitefield, a major information technology hub for the city.

“The problem with Whitefield is that there are not many parallel roads inside the region and hence the pressure is more on the main roads. There is an urgent need to improve connectivity by developing interior roads. Whereever necessary, if some IT campuses within Whitefield can provide right of way, the interior roads can be developed. Some urban solution companies and citizen groups are working on this and there is positive response to start with. State government will extend support to the exercise if it works out,” he added.

George made this statement following a meeting of urban experts and civic agencies under the chairmanship of chief minister Siddharamaiah.

Other points discussed in the meeting include speeding up the land acquisition for peripheral ring road project by sharing some parcel of the developed land to property owners.
