BENGALURU: The much-awaited Bidadi Smart City project– touted to be Bengaluru‘s own Gurugram- will soon be a reality. The Greater Bengaluru Bidadi Smart City Planning Authority is developing a master plan for a 9,178.29-acre knowledge park, to be taken up under the work-live-play concept.
The planning authority , functioning under the Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (BMRDA), has called for expression of interest for developing the master plan for the project coming up in 38 villages in and around Bidadi in Ramanagara district, about 35km from Bengaluru.
“Suggestions or objections can be filed before January 15, 2017 either in person or post it to the planning authority office on the premises of the BMRDA office, Ali Askar Road,“ said a BMRDA official.
The official said the smart city, coming up off Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, will help reduce pressure on the existing IT hubs like Whitefield and Electronic City . “Bidadi Township falls in the alignment of the Satellite Town Ring Road. Hence, access won’t be a problem. It will throw open job opportunities to people from Mysuru as well,“ the official added.
Though the project was conceived more than a decade ago and the state cabinet cleared it in 2006, land acquisition has been a major hurdle. In fact, real estate firm DLF had bagged the development rights in 2009, but it was only in December 2015 that BMRDA decided to revive the project. The chief minister, in this year’s budget, had announced forming of a separate planning authority for the project. While the initial estimated cost was Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 crore with an office space of 2 million square feet, the master plan will reveal the revised cost.
There are plans to come up with innovative compensation models as the share of private land (6,336 acres) is huge compared to that of government land (2,198 acres). KG Gollarapalya, Aralalasandra, Byramangala, Bannigiri, Kanchugaranahalli, Kanchugaranahalli Kaval, Kempaiyyanapalya, Mandlahalli are some of the villages where the project is supposed to come up.
