HC orders transfer of Rama Raman from NOIDA

ALLAHABAD: Seldom is a bureaucrat’s name as closely associated with a city as Rama Raman’s is with Noida. As chief administrator of a region that developed into a real estate goldmine, his was the always last word. Not any more.

Raman’s long stint as the most powerful man in Gautam Budh Nagar came to an abrupt end on Friday as the Allahabad high court froze his powers and asked the Uttar Pradesh government to transfer him out, asking why it had kept a bureaucrat in the same saddle for so long.

Raman is currently chairman and CEO of Noida Authority and holds additional charge as chairman of the Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development authorities (GNIDA and YEIDA).

He arrived in the district in 2010 when the Mayawati government posted him as CEO of GNIDA. The reins of the government passed to Samajwadi Party in 2011 and the bureaucracy went through the customary overhaul but Raman wasn’t uprooted.
