NAVI MUMBAI: Three real estate agents have been arrested for allegedly conniving with five Project Affected Parties (PAP) beneficiaries to sell six Cidco plots to a Kharghar investor by forging documents.
The plots in Roadpali and Kalamboli were reserved for PAPs but not yet allotted. The agents sold the plots for Rs 20 crore. The three arrested accused have been identified as Avinash Koli, Sanjay Koli and Naresh Mhatre. The PAPs are yet to be arrested as they could not be traced. But the agents have been remanded to police custody till Monday.
“The Kharghar investor, Venkat Mahadev Alhat (46), had submitted a written complaint to the Economic Offences Wing unit-2 office, accusing the eight of cheating him of a sum of Rs 20 crore between 2013 and 2015,” an officer from the crime branch said.
Recently, when Alhat approached Cidco’s concerned department for the commencement certificate to start construction on the six plots, he was shocked to know that the allotment letters he had got in the name of five PAPs were forged.
After a preliminary investigation and gathering of documentary evidence against the eight accused, the EOW registered an FIR against them for cheating and forgery under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at Kalamboli police station on December 2. The three agents were arrested on the same day.
