NOIDA: About 300 flat buyers from various builder‘s projects in Noida’s Sector 107 held a protest in front of Noida Authority’s office on Tuesday regarding stalled projects. They hosted a street drama, and left toy houses at the gates as a mark of protest.
“Despite our long-drawn battle, we still don’t know the fate of flats we’ve booked. We are being victimized by both the builders and the Authority,” said Puneet Parashar, a buyer who led today’s protest.
“Buyers are now at the end of their patience. We just hope speedy action is taken to resolve this issue,”said Arun Kalra, another buyer at the protest.
Buyers claimed they have been left in the lurch by the 2013 Supreme Court order quashing the acquisition of 225 hectares of land in Salarpur village of Gautam Budh Nagar, that comprises Sector 107. There are close to 5,000 apartments in five stalled projects in the area.
The Authority had acquired the Salarpur village land in 2008-2009, under an urgency clause of the Land Acquisition Act. Booking for flats happened during 2010-11. The acquisition was later challenged by the farmers, first in Allahabad high court and then in the Supreme Court. Eventually, in its August 5, 2013 order, not only did the apex court quash the acquisition of the 225 hectares in question, but cancelled the notification of the entire village.
Construction, though, continued in full swing even after the order, as the builders approached the SC for a review petition. The SC sent the case back to Allahabad high court for a review. Finally, in a June 2014 order, the high court stopped all construction in Sector 107 and imposed status quo.
The next hearing of the case at the Allahabad high court is on January 19.
