NEW DELHI: With India improving its rankings in WEF’s Competitiveness Index, the government on Wednesday expected to move up the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business and was hopeful that ratings agencies would also factor in the reform measures and upgrade the sovereign rating.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley told reporters that he expected a further boost to India’s rankings after the implementation of goods and services tax (GST) and other reform measures by the government.
India moved up 16 places to 39th position in WEF’s Competitive ness Index, the second year of similar gains.
“Keeping the popular aspirations, the reform agenda of the government, an improvement in the goods market through the GST and steps in the the Digital India space, I am sure that this momentum will continue,“ Jaitley said.
