KANPUR: Union minister for Urban development M Venkaiah Naidu said that the Centre will render full support to the state as far as development is concerned. He said that several projects would hit the ground soon, including the launch of a number of trains.
Talking about Kanpur metro, the minister said that a proposal of Kanpur metro was prepared by the state government and sent to the Centre where it is in the stages of approval. Soon the metro project would be approved by the Union cabinet and Centre would give all support for it. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Centre and Akhilesh in the state will take forward the Kanpur metro project.
Naidu said that the Central government has already cleared Lucknow metro project and now it is in the process of clearing Kanpur metro project. When state government will send proposal of metro for Varanasi, the Centre will approve it also. Venkaiah said that in order to make a smart city, smart people and smart leadership is required and if Centre and state government will join hands, Kanpur would be transformed into a beautiful city.
He said that Uttar Pradesh has maximum number of smart cities and that 61 of its cities would be developed as ‘Amrit’ towns where sanitation facilities, water supply, sewerage, drainage, urban development will be superior. Naidu said that the Kanpur already boasts of several premier educational institutions, including IIT and is a big commerical centre.
BJP MP Murli Manohar Joshi while addressing the gathering said that it is an occasion of double treat for the people of Kanpur. First the city got selected to be developed as smart city and then metro project has been gifted. “Kanpur has got several projects such as ‘Namami Gange’, Tool Room and others. On Thursday, a 600-bed super-speciality hospital would be inaugurated. The Central government is working on cooperative federalism which is worth appreciating. As far as development issue is concerned, both Centre and state are working together,” he added.
He gave a slogan ‘Developed Kanpur, Developed India’ and said that for Rs 15,000 crore worth of Thermal power project would come up at Ghatampur in Kanpur. The land has been given by state government and the Centre is giving funds.
“I wish the CM to remain present in the foundation stone laying function of thermal power plant on soon,” he said.
