KMC lodges FIR against builder for construction over filled up waterbody

KOLKATA: The KMC has lodged an FIR against a realtor engaged in construction of a housing project on a filled-up waterbody. Apart from lodging the FIR with Kasba police station, mayor Sovan Chatterjee took up the matter with city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, asking him to take action against the errant promoters.

Chatterjee on Tuesday said a stop-work notice had been issued telling the promoter to stop the construction at Picnic Garden Road with immediate effect. The mayor alleged the promoter had forged papers at the time of submitting detailed documents for sanction of the building plans. “The papers he had submitted gave an idea the high-rise would be constructed on a purchased land. Following complaints from locals, we searched our records and came to know the land in question was a pond which had been filled up,” he said.

A senior civic official said a section of the KMC building department officials were compelled to grant a sanction to the housing project following intervention of a section of influential ruling party leaders in the locality.
