The leased space will be used as a back office and technology centre, according to people aware of the matter, who said the company has already occupied 70,000 sq ft in Western Pearl commercial office building in Hitec City in the first phase and it will move into the remaining property in a phased manner.
Western Pearl is a 700,000 sq ft building, with a leasable area of 500,000 sq ft. A detailed email sent to Uber did not elicit any response.
The San Francisco-based company had earlier this year signed an agreement with Telangana government to invest $50 million in Hyderabad over the next five years to set up a state-of-the-art facility. This will be Uber’s biggest international office outside the US.
“Uber’s new office space in Hyderabad will be next to big IT firms like Google. The new property can seat over 1,800 employees. Normally companies provide 80 sq ft per employee,” said one of the persons, who did not wish to be identified.
