PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will construct affordable houses costing as low as Rs 8.72 lakh per flat for the poor in Charholi under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’.
The project, the first under the scheme in the city, is estimated to cost Rs 144 crore.
A proposal will be tabled at the civic general body meeting on Monday. The proposal states that the state government had asked the PCMC, through letters on February 2 and April 13 this year, to join the centrally-funded housing scheme and prepare a ‘home for all by 2022’ plan by selecting beneficiaries from urban poor.
The project will be completed in three years. The flats will be given on a 99 year lease to the benfeciaries. The beneficiary may pay his share in installments to the civic body.
