Provide 438 hectares of Collector’s land for affordable housing: Maha Housing Minister

From ET Realty

MUMBAI: The state housing department has sought 438 hectares of collector’s land free of cost. The plots spread over the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (excluding Mumbai) will be used by the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (Mhada) to create affordable accommodation, said state housing minister Prakash Mehta.

Revenue department officials said the land can be transferred without any cost provided the finance department approves of it. If it does then the government would have subsidized the land cost. “The Mhada tenements will then entail only construction cost. This will bring down the prices of flats further down even in the private sector. However, there will be no impact on the realty prices in Mumbai,” said the official.
