KANPUR: Ministry for urban development has accepted the Kanpur Municipal Corporation’s (KMC’s) renewed smart city project. It has directed it to float tenders for preparing the project by a new company.
Suresh Chandra, nodal officer of the smart city, said that KMC would finalise the name of the new company by the end of the current month for preparing the project. In its new project, the new company besides removing shortcomings of the earlier project would focus on parks, roads and drainage system of the selected areas of the city, he informed.
He said that KMC had requested the urban development ministry to replace the old Company– Dorch Consultants– with a new one which was cleared by it. The renewed project would now be submitted before the union urban development ministry for its clearance, he added.
“Ghantaghar, Nai Sadak, Express Road, Nayaganj, Parmat, Parade and 19 wards under 500 acre area have been covered in the new project while Rs 50 crore will be spent on infrastructure of sewer and potable water”, informed the nodal officer. Some new projects such as flyovers at Narhona Crossing to Parade, GT Road, Govind Nagar and Rawatpur flyovers and multi level parking at all major markets could be included in the new project, he added.
