LUCKNOW: An industrial unit manufacturing spurious cement for sale under famous brand names was busted in a raid by district administration on Sunday. The factory is located across Mohan road in heavily populated slums and had been supplying the spurious cement in the city for the past two years. Police are now trying to trace traders, shopkeepers passing on this the mixture in the construction business.
Around 1pm on Sunday, SDM (Sadar) Raj Kamal Yadav received a message on his cell phone with a tip-off about an illegal factory preparing cement with a mixture of soil, sand and other inferior quality cement in the slum area of Para. This is not the first time a factory has been raided and caught preparing inferior quality cement.
Mixture of sand, soil, cement, cheap adhesive to bind brick and mortar and colour were being churned out together to pass off as cement. 300 sacks of different cement brands filled with the spurious mix were recovered. All four rooms located in the middle of a slum in Para area were being used to manufacture it.
FIR has been lodged against the owner and factory operator. When the district administration team arrived at the factory they found hundreds of sacks ready to be taken to different parts of the city for sale. The factory compound had four big sections where they have installed a mixture machine and a mine to prepare the cement. The factory operator provided strict instructions to pack up the mixture in sacks of famous brands, said Yadav. According to officials the factory was running since January 2014.
Case has been registered under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery) and trademark act 1999 along with section 486 (selling goods marked with a counterfeit property mark) against owner of the factory Shrawan Kumar Awasthi, said SDM Sadar Raj Kamal.
