THANE: The Thane police on Thursday constituted a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve deeper into the charges disproportionate assets of the four accused corporators arrested for abetting suicide of builder Suraj Parmar.
The SIT will be led by additional police commissioner level ranking officer–Makrand Ranade–and will include two Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) level officers-Dilip Gore and Bharat Shelke–along with three police inspectors and there constables, a notification released by the Ashutosh Dumre, the joint commissioner of police states.
“The designated team is being tasked to ensure that this case is taken to logical conclusion and the accused corporators are tried for allegedly amassing the wealth beyond their known sources of income,” a top official informed TOI.
“As all the officers have previously worked with Anti Corruption Bureau and familiar with probing financial investigations are privy to the necessary documentation required to hold the ground in the court, the officer added.
TOI was the first to report that the money trail and the financial transactions of the accused–four corporators—Vikrant Chavan Najib Mulla, Hanumant Jagdale and Sudhakar Chavan– was under scrutiny which the investigators in detail have been studying in the last couple of months.
This could well be a cause of worry to the foursome and can act as a ground for the disproportionate property asset case which is pipeline against the accused.
The officer added that there are two aspects in the probe as apart from abetting to suicide even the charges of Prevention of Corruption Act are being slapped. “Initially, the charges of abetment to suicide was underway and even the disproportionate assets is being probed but considering the minute details which has to be explored in the transactions, the SIT shall focus on the in-depth probe against the four accused corporators property and report to the joint commissioner and report him on regular basis,” the officer informed.
