Whitefielders set deadlines for development

BENGALURU: Whitefield residents have set deadlines for city development minister KJ George. To start with, they have demanded that traffic coordination will have to be streamlined at six crucial gridlock points by December 24.

Eight big infrastructure issues that Whitefield has been ailed with was discussed at length when the minister visited the area on Saturday afternoon and met aggrieved residents, members of Whitefield Rising and industries association. RK Misra, civic critique who initiated the #SaveWhitefield movement along with the members of the Rising set deadlines for each of the matters.

Time given to George to upgrade six major roads of Whitefield—Siddapura to ITPL, Borewell road, ECC road, Kundanahalli to Hoodi, Outer Ring Road to EPIP and ring road to Whitefield via Varthur by March 31. They also demanded that these roads should be of the TenderSURE quality and all roads should be tendered under ASIDE and Nagarotthana scheme—widening for last two years to be added to the project. Another 24 interior roads to be strengthened by the same deadline.
Expediting work on the MG road to Hope Farm junction via Old Airport road and to ChikkaTirupathi road via Old Madras road must be completed by June 30. Ring road should also be upgraded with service roads and rams, bus shelters and foot-over-bridges and developing the state highway number 35 from Dommasandra to Hoskote from four to six lanes as per plan should also be done by the same time.

Metro connectivity is the most important way to connect to the rest of the city but the slowest process for Whitefield. However, they made George commit to expedite the work of the construction as mandated in the second phase of the Bengaluru metro project that will extend the Mysuru road—Majestic—MG road line to Whitefield from Byappanahalli.

George has appointed Ravishankar, special commissioner of BBMP as a nodal officer to coordinate and monitor all ongoing infrastructure projects in and around Whitefield. He also asked metro officials to give him a weekly report on progress of metro works.
